Welcome to Justice First

Supporting people who seek safety in the UK

We offer specialist legal advice, practical and emotional support, community activities, volunteer befrienders, and deliver refugee awareness training, presentations, and talks.

We are a specialist service in the North East that works closely with, and refers people to other supportive organisations as appropriate.

Our vision is of a society based on a tradition of welcoming, acceptance and dignity for those who seek safety in the UK

We give people an opportunity to use the available evidence, to support their asylum claim.

We raise awareness of the hardship faced by many of our beneficiaries.

We offer practical assistance, in the last 12 months, over 700 people accessed our services

We provide a safe and trusting environment where people can tell the story of their refugee journey.

JF Client

“I am grateful very much for such a voluntary organisation. Their kindness makes me believe in all good positive things. And I hope one day I could join them in helping more people without conditions.”

JF Client

“They are a very helpful organisation who help Asylum seekers who have no Solicitors. They’re straight to the point about whether they can help you or not. While you’re there, they offer you snacks, tea or coffee and if you are destitute, they can even help with clothes and food through another charity. Very wonderful bunch of people there.”

JF Client

“Great team with huge empathy. God bless you. You helped me indirectly and I am very grateful and humble.”

JF Client

“Outstanding service received today regarding my ILR application. The advisor has excellent communication skills. Very responsive and helpful.”

🚨 Rwanda Update!🚨Dear Supporters,We apologise for the recent quietness - the past few weeks have been incredibly hectic in the sector as you will be aware. We've been approached with lots of concern from clients, professionals, and organisations regarding Rwanda. We were deeply saddened by the passing of the Rwanda bill and stand in solidarity with efforts, such as those led by Asylum Aid, in challenging the decision. Our commitment to #BuildingBridgesNotWalls remains unwavering, and we firmly oppose the Rwanda deal. There are lots of important resources circulating online, and we wanted to share them as well in case you or someone you know is anxious about Rwanda or has received removal directions. Please, help spread the word within your networks. To our knowledge, most detentions related to Rwanda are occurring at IRCs in the south, including Brook House, Colnbrook, and Yarls Wood. We’ve observed an increase in detentions during reporting at Middlesbrough Reporting Centre, with at least two cases we have been made aware of this week alone. In light of these developments, we recommend the following:• Whenever possible, accompany individuals to their reporting appointments or ensure they inform a trusted friend about their plans.• Encourage individuals to carry key contact numbers, such as those for their legal representatives, friends, and emergency contacts, either written on their arm or on a piece of paper incase they are detained. • Remind individuals that if they are detained, they have the right to make phone calls and seek legal advice.• Advise individuals not to agree to or sign anything without first obtaining legal advice.#KnowledgeIsPower #RefugeesWelcome #MigrantsWelcome ...
